A finance lesson

Being a commuter for about 4 straight years I've ridden the Purple line in and out of the Loop twice a day and notice the same buildings, the same restaurants, and usually the same people. I've passed Bull & Bear several times and have only been in there twice. My first experience was during happy hour and it wasn't all that memorable. The second time, however, was a different story.

Its menu is cute, mirroring the financial section of the newspaper. I thought the name of the bar was referencing Chicago sports teams. I was in for a lesson: it was named just like the stock market. Now all the financial details of the restaurant started to make sense. I am really effin' clueless sometimes.

It was a nice day and we decided to dine alfresco. The truffle mac and cheese was rich but not too creamy. I honestly can't pass up a dressed-up version of mac and cheese no matter where I am. It's kind of sad, but also kind of rewarding. I also ordered the short rib sliders. They look small and harmless but it took all of my effort to finish them. I should probably rethink my menu decisions and not start my meal with such a starchy appetizer.

Spencer's burger was damn near legendary. He had no idea what to order until a man about two tables away ordered that and I guess it was love at first sight. I'm not resentful or anything, because that burger was beautiful. And it had substance. That's a hard combination to come by in women, and in food. All in all, it was a great lunch. Thanks to my friend, Katrina, for her voucher to this place! It's a bit pricey for bar food but then again, it is right smack in River North so it's expected.
